Did you know that there’s no way in the Windows XP interface to disable or enable automatically running CDs when inserted into your computer. So when caught in a situation when your CD does not automatically run or you want to disable the service, check out yet another good knowledge base article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q155217/ or as summarized below ensure the values for the following Registry keys are set:

1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom

To disable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 0 (zero). To enable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 1.

2) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
Change the value of ExplorerNoDriveTypeAutoRun to 95

3) HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
Change the value of ExplorerNoDriveTypeAutoRun to 95
