Open source Eudora in 2007

QUALCOMM has just announced that its Eudora e-mail program will become an open source product effective the first half of calendar year 2007. As an open source product, it will be free to all customers. Surprisingly, they also announced that today would be the launch of the last commercial versions of Eudora, version 7.1 for Windows and version 6.2.4 for OSX.

I wonder if the popularity of programs such as Windows Live Mail Desktop, Thunderbird, Windows Live Custom Domains and Google Apps for Your Domain were the primary reasons for QUALCOMM to exit the e-mail program market.
