Representatives from Microsoft (Dean Hachamovitch), Opera (Christen Krogh), Mozilla (Mike Shaver) and Google (Sundar Pichal) met at the Churchill Club in Silicon Valley for a panel called “Browsers are Hot Again!“.
Some interesting tidbits from the Techcrunch review of the meeting include that the release candidate for Internet Explorer 8 is expected out in 2 weeks with no releases planned for the Mac or Linux platforms. Google Chrome is out of beta for the Windows platform and is coming out with a release for the Mac platform. Apple’s Safari and related Webkit javascript are important mobile platforms. Opera’s core philosophy is to supply a standards compliant browser for any Internet connected device. Firefox’s core philosophy is to create a standards-compliant browser in as many languages as possible to ensure that no one is left out of the Internet.
