Google Apps System Monitoring

The recent Google Mail outage that occurred on February 24th ended up affecting a number of organizations who use Google Apps to manage their e-mail. Clearly, in the event of an outage, customers of an organization often call the internal Help Desk or Service Desk for support issues as a result of not knowing who is truly responsible for the outage.

To address this and provide a layer of transparency to problems with Google Apps, a new monitoring page has been setup at the Apps Status Dashboard. According to the Google post, customers can use this Apps Status Dashboard to check on the current service status of individual services such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Docs, Google Sites and Google Video for business. Administrators of Google Apps for their businesses, schools and organizations can also view the performance of the administrative control panel.

Unfortunately the Google Apps Status RSS feed is still not available but at the very least we have a dashboard.
